Advanced Pharmacotherapy
About
In this course, you will use the knowledge you've collected during the program, from pharmacology, physiology, kinetics and pharmaceutics, to solve various patient cases. You will learn how to find and evaluate treatment recommendations, putting recommendations in relation to the patient's needs and get an understanding in the design of more complex treatment strategies. The focus is on inpatient treatment in the areas of pain, cardiovascular and infectious diseases and we are also discussing the appropriate medication for the elderly. In addition, you will have lectures and seminars on what the pharmacist's role might look like on a ward.
The lectures are few and instead the focus is on how your work group seeks information, evaluates it and compiles it to then account for the other students. We do this to mimic the real professional life, as you will soon be on you way into. You will be working in groups around the cases and later account to each other in a seminar. Your conclusions are then discussed in the plenary together with pharmacists and doctors. You will also practice communication skills in the form of fictitious patient talks, something you can use in a work at a pharmacy or in a hospital ward.
This is a tough course with a high tempo which gives you a good foundation for the pre-registration course in the pharmacy and future work as a pharmacist in healthcare, pharmacy or pharmaceutical industry.
