Presentation
Lapuente is Professor at the Department of Political Science and a Research Fellow at the Quality of Government Institute (QoG Institute), University of Gothenburg. He received his PhD in Political Science from the University of Oxford and the Juan March Institute (Madrid) and joined the QoG Institute in 2007.
Areas of interest
Lapuente's research deals mostly with comparative public administration and corruption. Why do some countries build up autonomous “Weberian” administrations? Do some political regimes produce administrations with higher quality of government and lower levels of corruption than others? Why some countries adopt New Public Management reforms?
Current research
Lapuente is working on the effects of a politicized administration vis-à-vis a meritocratic one on bureaucratic outcomes. In addition, he is involved in a large research project to map the level of corruption (and Quality of Government) in Europe, both at national as well as at sub-national level.
Teaching and tutoring
Lapuente teaches the courses The Quality of Government in a Comparative Perspective (SK2212), Political Science Analysis (SK2121), and in the International Administration and Global Governance (IAAG) Master's Programme.
