International Conference on Analyzing and Advancing Simulations for Professional Learning (SimPro2025)

The Fifth International Conference on Analyzing practices and advancing pedagogies for professional learning (SimPro2025) is a free, hybrid conference taking place on April 3, 2025, at Clarion Hotel The Pier, Gothenburg, Sweden.

SimPro2025 is funded by the Swedish Research council and part of the Nordic Network for simulation-based training and professional learning (SimPro). The overall aim of the network as well as the conference is to advance our understanding of simulation-based training across professional settings in ways that can improve the quality of training in simulated environments. The network as well as the conference builds on an interdisciplinary and comparative approach to ensure academic impact in respect to cross-disciplinary learning about simulation-based teaching methods. The conference turns to researchers and educators in simulation-based training, as well as to practitioners and students.

Call for proposals

Call for Proposals

The 5th SimPro conference invites proposals for presentations related to simulations for professional learning. We especially invite presentations of studies that aim to “open the black box” of practice and direct the analytical focus to what takes place when people are training together and reflect on simulations. We welcome presentations based on empirical and theoretical papers but also presentations that showcase practical applications of teaching and learning in simulated environments. In this way, SimPro aims to encourage submissions that can contribute knowledge on the process of learning and the conditions necessary for students to develop their professional knowledge through simulation-based training.

Each submission requires a title of up to 100 characters (including spaces) and an extended summary of 300-500 words (including references).

Please email your submission to charlott.sellberg@ait.gu.se before February 28, 2025

All submissions will go through a single-blind review process.

Conference theme

Today the advantages of simulations for developing the skills necessary for effective professional work and promoting safety are broadly acknowledged. Whilst much effort is devoted to study the effects of the simulation intervention, that is assumed to cause changes, the situation itself is largely dismissed. Consequently, the practice of simulation is “black boxed” which implies a need for more in-depth knowledge on the process of learning and the conditions necessary for students to develop their professional knowledge. The aim of the SimPro conference is to “open the black box” of practice and direct the analytical focus to what takes place when people are training together and reflect on simulations. Another ambition of the SimPro conference is to bring together research on simulation-based training from several professional domains.
