Research Interests
One of my research interests involves exploring the factors that may influence students’ academic achievements as well as their mental health. I am particularly interested in the reciprocal relationship between academic achievement and mental health. In this context, I study how various individual- and school-level variables may impact this relationship for different subgroups of students.
A second, but related, research interest is methodological in nature, focusing on the measurement properties of different scales. I have a strong interest in psychometric analyses based on Modern Test Theory and Rasch Measurement Theory. The Rasch model is a highly valuable tool for ruling out whether a set of variables can be combined to construct a unidimensional variable and for assessing whether the constructed variable works in the same way across different subgroups. This is a crucial prerequisite for making fair statistical comparisons between individuals belonging to different groups.
Teaching
I frequently teach courses on quantitative methods, educational assessment, and evaluation. I am also often engaged as a supervisor and examiner for our bachelor's and master's degree programs.
