Conference theme
Today the advantages of simulations for developing the skills necessary for effective professional work and promoting safety are broadly acknowledged. Whilst much effort is devoted to study the effects of the simulation intervention, that is assumed to cause changes, the situation itself is largely dismissed. Consequently, the practice of simulation is “black boxed” which implies a need for more in-depth knowledge on the process of learning and the conditions necessary for students to develop their professional knowledge.
Open the black box of practice
The aim of the SimPro conference is to “open the black box” of practice and direct the analytical focus to what takes place when people are training together and reflect on simulations. Another ambition of the SimPro conference is to bring together research on simulation-based training from several professional domains. In 2021, the conference gathered researchers studying simulations in healthcare and maritime education. In 2022, the program had a broader scope and includes the use of simulations in teacher training and crisis management as well as simulations in healthcare, military, maritime, bioengineering and police education.
Simulation pedagogy
This year, SimPro2023 gathers researchers from Sweden, Norway, and Germany to discuss simulation as arenas for professional learning, with examples from medicine, bioengineering, maritime navigation and teacher education. As a result, the conference outlines how recent research findings can advance simulation pedagogy in professional education.
