Keynote speakers SimPro 2024

Riikka Hofmann is Professor of the Learning Sciences at Cambridge University, based at the Faculty of Education and the School of Clinical Medicine’s Cambridge University Medical Education Group.

Her research investigates the mechanisms through which professional learning interventions in education and healthcare effect change in institutional practice to achieve more equitable outcomes. She leads a research group investigating effective professional development and sustained change in professional practice in educational and healthcare settings. She is Fellow of Hughes Hall, Cambridge and holds the title of Docent in Psychology of Education at Helsinki University. As expert advisor to the UK Government, the Department for Education and the National Health Service and the World Bank, she has significantly contributed to taking research into addressing real-world challenges.

Roger Säljö is Professor of Educational Psychology at University of Gothenburg, Sweden. He specializes in research on learning, interaction and human development in a sociocultural perspective, where he has published extensively.

Much of this work is related to issues of how people learn to use cultural tools and symbolic technologies, and how we acquire competencies and skills that are foundational to learning in a socially and technologically complex society. Between 2006 and 2018, he was Director of the Linnaeus Centre for Research on Learning, Interaction and Mediated Communication in Contemporary Society (LinCS), a national centre of excellence funded by the Swedish Research Council (2006-2018). He has been a Finland Distinguished Professor (FiDiPro) at the Centre for Learning Research at the University of Turku in Finland. He is an honorary doctor at the University of Turku and the University of Agder, and honorary professor at the University of Bath, UK.
