Position
The course is given both as an independent course within the program. The course is a compulsory course at Social Analysis Program in Economic History and Human Geography (S1SAP), Social science environmental science program (S1SMI) for those who choose a specialization in cultural geography within the framework of their program studies. The course is a continuation course in cultural geography compulsory for the degree.
Entry requirements
Admission to the course requires at least 22,5 credits human geography, geography, social geography or an equivalent discipline.
Content
The course deals with spatial planning in connection with environmental issues from a geographical perspective perspective. Both flows of substances and the use of land and water are treated. The focus is on society's work with and perspective on physical planning and resource management with a focus on environmental work at different levels. Methods of physical planning and environmental planning are tested through active field work. The course includes practical exercises that connect complex issues with current ones societal problems and challenges
Objectives
Knowledge and understanding
1. Show basic understanding of the spatial organization of society based on physical, economic and social processes.
2. Show an understanding of society's goals for sustainable development, as well as the goal conflicts and balancing of interests that this perspective entails, especially in relation to physical planning and environmental issues.
Skill and ability
3. Apply different geographical methods in the field and explain the importance of doing field work.
4. Search, select and analyze relevant literature (literature search).
Evaluation skills and approach
5. Critically evaluate the importance of physical planning to deal with environmental problems and issues related to the management of land and water.

Form of teaching
The teaching consists of lectures, exercises, field work and seminars
Examination formats
The learning objectives are examined through a written exam and an exercise. The practice part is examined in several parts: participation in field studies, written report and oral presentation. The student who does not attend mandatory sections or does not submit written ones reports within the prescribed time must complete supplementary tasks in order to be approved on the course.
If a student who has failed twice on the same examination part wishes to change by the examiner before the next examination session, such request should be submitted in writing to the institution and must be approved if there are no special reasons to the contrary (HF ch. 6 § 22).
If the student has received a recommendation from the University of Gothenburg regarding special pedagogical support can examiner, in case it is compatible with the objectives of the course and provided that it is not unreasonable resources are required, decide to give the student an adapted examination or alternative form of examination.
In the event that a course has ceased or undergone major changes, the student must be guaranteed at least three examination occasions (including ordinary examination occasion) during a period of at least one year, but at most two years after the course has ended/changed. What refers to internships and business-based training apply correspondingly, but with limitations to only one further examination occasion.
Grades
The course is given one of the grades Excellent (A), Very good (B), Good (C), Satisfactory (D), Sufficient (E) and Fail (F). In order to obtain a passing grade (A-E) on the course, attendance at mandatory classes is required part and a passing result on all examining parts. Rated on the course as a whole is weighed together by the results of the examining elements and methods relation to established grading scale.
Course evaluation
At the end of the course, a course evaluation is carried out. The result and any changes in the structure of the course must be communicated both to the students who carried out the assessment and to the students who will pay for the course.
Other regulations
The course uses a virtual learning platform for digital communication between teachers and course participants and between course participants. Access to a computer and the Internet is therefore required.
The course cannot be included in the degree together with the course KGG101 or KGG1EP.
