Over the last 20 years task-based language teaching (TBLT) has attracted much attention; it has become the dominant approach to language teaching in many contexts and is officially endorsed in some countries (e.g., Carless, 2004; East, 2012; Van den Branden, 2006). But what is TBLT and how is it different to more traditional approaches to language teaching? Does research into second language acquisition suggest that this is the best way for learners to learn another language?

This presentation will introduce TBLT and attempt to answer these important questions.
