About
The University of Gothenburg has been offered to establish Queen Silvia's Professor in Global Child and Adolescent Health with a special focus on mental health. This conference marks the initiation of a long term commitment of the university to extend and deepen interdisciplinary initiatives in the Gothenburg area on global child and adolescent mental health.
We welcome all related researchers, practitioners and stakeholders in the Gothenburg area to meet up to build a long-term innovative, strong, and unique environment that includes research, education, and collaboration on global child and adolescent mental health.
The conference is organised in four sessions. The first session will cover speeches and a panel discussion on causes of challenges to youth mental health followed by a session on early and efficient interventions to improve youth mental health. In the afternoon the new professorship and the connected new research initiative will be presented together with an overview of already established research initiatives in the Gothenburg area. A main aim of the conference is to establish regional networks to further extend the interdisciplinary research. The last session introduces the extensive funding initiative by Wellcome Trust to support research on mental health.
The conference will be preceded by a round-table discussion to identify and discuss global challenges and priorities in child and adolescent mental health. HM Queen Silvia of Sweden and Director General of WHO Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus, together with other high-level representatives of globally important organisations such as UNICEF, UNHCR, MSF and regional and local stakeholders, will by this discussion inspire the following day's conference and the long-term project work by highlighting the most important mental health problems and solutions. The round-table will be followed by a joint mingle with conference participants.
The conference is free of charge and includes coffee and lunch. If you register and then are unable to attend the conference, we would very much appreciate if you cancel your reservation in order for another guest to attend the conference.

Programme
The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted in 1989 as an international agreement to protect and promote children’s rights globally, and has since served as a guiding principle for how we should treat and care for the world’s youngest and most vulnerable inhabitants.
Young people of today face many challenges in a turbulent world: violent conflicts, climate crisis, digitalization and socioeconomic vulnerability, with both physical and mental health issues as a consequence.
Research and education that focus on children’s mental health and well-being in a life course and inclusive perspective are urgently needed to address these challenges. Only through interdisciplinary and multisectoral collaboration can we create a world where all children can grow up in safety and with full respect for their rights.
The conference will be held in English.
