20 years of research cooperation between Sweden and Rwanda

In March 2023 the University of Rwanda and the Embassy of Sweden invited researchers, teamleaders, diplomats and other stakeholders to Kigali to celebrate 20 years of research cooperation between Sweden and Rwanda. The event took place during three days at the Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village (KCEV).

The main objective of the event was to celebrate the achievements through the long partnership between Sweden and Rwanda and to further strengthen that partnership.

The three days program was attended by researchers and Vice Chancellors from Swedish universities and the University of Rwanda, diplomats and other stakeholders. Some of the themes that were covered during the four days were:

  • The impact of the research cooperation on the socioeconomic transformation in Rwanda;
  • Health and life sciences research - past, present and future perspectives;
  • Gender in science and leadership for transforming institutions;
  • Social cohesion after the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi;
  • The economy, development and inclusion in Rwanda
  • Agriculture, climate change and food security in Rwanda.

A number of networking activities and meetings aiming at future collaboration were also organised for the Vice Chancellors and Heads of delegations from Sweden and Rwanda.

Gunilla Blomqvist Sköldberg and Gustav Aldén Rudd, represented the School of Global Studies (SGS) and talked about the 20 years of collaboration between SGS and Center for Conflict Management (CCM).
