Kochi, Japan
Overview of the GNC's most established hub, Kochi, Japan
Almost at the same time as the opening of the GNC in 2010, a group of Japanese clinical and epidemiological researchers wanted to establish a "GNC-influenced" centre in Japan. Kanako Korenaga and Yuhei Hatakenaka in Kochi worked hard to establish the Kochi Gillberg Neuropsychiatry Centre and to open up relationships with the Kochi University Medical School, where Christopher Gillberg is now a Visiting Professor. Over the past several years, many Swedish-Japanese research projects have been launched and some have been completed. Yuhei Hatakenaka has graduated as PhD at the University of Gothenburg, and he is now a Professor of Clinical Psychology at University of the Ryukyus.
Koko Yasumitsu-Lovell is a PhD student with a joint project between the Universities of Gothenburg, Kochi Gillberg Centre, Kochi University Medical School, and the Japanese Environment and Children Study (JECS). Many more studies are ongoing in collaboration with the Kochi Gillberg Centre.
