About Maj-Britt Posserud
Maj-Britt Posserud is a specialist and professor in child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of Bergen, and she is currently a visiting professor at the Gillberg Neuropsychiatry Centre, supported by the Stena Foundation. She oversees the child and adolescent psychiatry course in the medical program in Bergen and works clinically with preschool children with autism. Her research focuses on autism and ADHD, and she also represents child psychiatry at the Norwegian National Competence Centre for Sleep (sovno.no).
Research interests
Through her teaching and research, Posserud aims to spread greater awareness about the mental health of children and young people. While child and adolescent psychiatry is a relatively small subject within medical education, ESSENCE-related issues are common and have a significant impact on individuals, families, and society as a whole.
Posserud is the project leader for ENACT, a multicentre study in Norway involving three clinics: Bergen, Trondheim, and Haugesund. ENACT is a randomized controlled trial investigating parental stress among parents of preschool-aged children with autism. The study also examines quality of life and the child's functioning. ENACT evaluates the effectiveness of The Incredible Years, a program adapted specifically for parents of children with autism aged 2–6 years. It is the largest study in the world focusing on this topic and compares the program to a psychoeducational parent training course. The goal is to better understand which parent training programs benefit parents and whether they also positively impact the children. Read more about ENACT at www.enact.no.
Posserud is also leading a project set to launch at BNK/GNC in 2025, aiming to map fundamental functions in children with ESSENCE to enable better interventions. The project is titled "Eat – Move – Sleep in Neurodevelopmental Disorders".
