Research interests
Since 2017, Maria has been a PhD student at the Gillberg Neuropsychiatry Centre. Her PhD project “Children with ESSENCE and their parents – parenting, stress and traumatic life events” is based on her clinical work with children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental conditions and their parents. The project aims to investigate the occurrence of parenting stress, adverse childhood experiences, and parenting methods in families with children with neurodevelopmental disorders. Additionally, it explores whether there is a correlation with the parents’ own neuropsychiatric symptoms. The study’s goal is to gather information for assessment, treatment, and the development of support interventions for both children and parents.
