Open House 2024

During the Open House on 29 November, we invite all those who are curious about what we do, and what it’s like to study at HDK-Valand! You are welcome to visit us on Vasagatan and Kristinelundsgatan in Gothenburg, or to participate in the English, digital events.

Welcome to meet our teachers, students and programme supervisors who will tell you all about our international BFA and MFA programmes. On our Open House you can also go on guided tours, visit our students in their open studios and talk to our guidance counselor. 

Three of our BFA programmes are taught in English; Metal art, Wood Oriented Furniture Design and Crafting Futures (NEW PROGRAM). Teachers and students from these programs, which are located at Campus Steneby in Dals Långed, will come the Open House in Gothenburg and tell you about the programmes and their study environment.

For more detailed information about our international programmes, we offer digital presentations about our BFA's 4–5 December and digital presentations about our MFA's 19–21 November. We will also offer a digital meeting 17 December where you will get information on how to apply to our MFA programmes.

Exhibitions and workshops

Throughout the day there are a number of exhibitions in both buildings. Follow the signs or ask one of our entrance hosts to find your way.

 

At Kristinelundsgatan 6-8
Workshop: The Fermented Bar 
The independent course ÄTA, together with chef and fermentation artisan Lisa Palm, invites you to a workshop where you get to experience fermented mocktails.
Location: Kristinelundsgatan 6-8, the cafe.
In the course ÄTA - Food Culture, Materiality and Design, the simple meal is a platform for conversation, reflection, experiences and meetings. The materiality, spatiality and choreography of eating - as in, the objects we use, the space we are in and how we move - is the starting point for the course's investigative design work. 

Exhibition: Students from the course EAT, MFA in Design and MFA in Embedded Design presents the results of a multi-day workshop that has been created together with Steinbeisser.
Location: Baulan, Kristinelundsgatan 6-8

Exhibition: Design, year 2 
Students from the second year of the BFA programme in Design exhibits part of their work from their course exploratory project.
Location: Corridor outside Stora Hörsalen (Big Auditorium), Kristinelundsgatan 6-8.

 

At Vasagatan 50

Exhibition: Welcome to the exhibition of the first year of the Bachelor of Fine Arts programme! In the exhibition we show works from our first months on the programme. Lift available. 
Location: Vasagatan 50, Floor 5.

Workshop: Comics & Ink 
Workshop with comics and ink together with the art teacher programme. 
Location: Vasagatan 50, Exhibition wall on Floor 2.

Exhibition: Photography, year 2 
Students from the second year of the BFA programme in Photography exhibits. publications that they have worked with during their framing course.
Location: X-Library, Vasagatan 50.
 

Open studios: The students in the Bachelor's and Master's programme in Fine Arts open up their studios, welcome to peek into student work and ask questions.
Time: 10.00–12.00 & 13.00–15.00. 
Location: Vasagatan 50. 

Guided tours and student counselling

Tours
Our students show you around the building through guided tours that depart regularly. if you are part of a larger group, or if you have any special interests, it may be good to book the tour in advance, email your requests to: public@hdk.gu.se. The tours are given in both Swedish and English and takes about 30-45 minutes.

Information about studying and admission
In addition to the teaching staff, many members of our support services will be available to answer questions about admissions, exchange studies, the support available for academic studies, and more. Feel free to talk to one of our administrators or academic advisors.

Open workshops
For those of you who are curious about our workshops, they are open and most of our valued and knowledgeable technicians are on hand to show you around the equipment and machinery. You can also check out the students' different study environments and browse books in our outstanding artlibrary.
