Research area: Crafts
Contemporary craft sits at the intersection of art and design and considers the meaning of materials and the meaning of making. The proximity of craft to production arguably allows the contemporary craft disciplines to uphold their ethical standards, but also implicates craft in confronting the overproduction of our material world.
Craft research at HDK undertakes research projects around the theme of craft & society and explore topics which include: gender; tacit knowledge; definitions of labour and skill; community, empathy and care; the home, identity and transnationalism.
