What do we mean by sustainable digital society?

Of course, there are many aspects and complex connections to map in order to provide answers, and in our research and education this question is constantly present. The question concerns both how we can use the enormous potential of digitalisation to solve societal problems and contribute to sustainability, while at the same time identifying and managing the challenges that digitalisation also creates. The fundamental idea is that a sustainable digital society is both about developing sustainable technology and a sustainable use of technology.

The IT Faculty ceases to exist as a unit

The IT Faculty will no longer be a Faculty of its own as of 1 January 2025. The two departments within IT – including all research and education will move to the Faculty of Science, which changes name to the Faculty of Science and Technology.

The University Board made the decision on changing the Faculty structure at the University of Gothenburg on 11 September 2024.

We would like to thank everyone who have been working with the IT Faculty and the IT University for good and fruitful collaboration over the years!
