New fellow researcher at JMG
The Department of Journalism, Media, and Communication (JMG) welcomes our new visiting researcher, Alexandra Feddersen, from the University of Fribourg, Switzerland
Alexandra Feddersen is a professor of political communication and media at the Department of Communication and Media Studies at the University of Fribourg. Her research focuses on the interaction and influence between politics, the media, and public opinion.
– I work with political communication, and I have a research project where I examine how political parties and politicians change their opinions and how they communicate these changes – or choose not to. Then I analyze how journalists report on these shifts, and finally, I explore how the public perceives them.
Interest in JMG
As a visiting researcher at JMG, she will stay until the end of July, with Jesper Strömbäck as her host. She chose JMG because it is an exciting institution with many interesting researchers and projects.
– My interest in JMG was sparked back in 2018 when I participated in a collaborative project between political science and JMG. I found it inspiring that two institutions worked together, especially since I work with political communication myself. I’ve also been to Gothenburg several times before and feel at home here – not least because I have family here.
Alexandra also shares that during her time at JMG, she looks forward to having more time for research, something that can be difficult to prioritize during the semesters when she has many administrative tasks. She hopes to have fruitful discussions with colleagues and gain inspiration for new research ideas. On May 13, her PhD students will also visit JMG to participate in a workshop, which Alexandra says she is excited about.
