Josefine Chiacchiero: Sounds of Foothold
About sounds, structures and spaces in an extended choreographic practice
What is a foothold and where could it take you? Observe and listen to the darkness and silence in a space of poetry and documentary material, of human bodies from desert places. Retain the energy of dance and music, retain the energy of creativity and communication. Participate peacefully by placing yourself in the footholds, participate simply by your
presence. You will be guided into a room in the room and through four different entrances you will experience proposals related to several questions:
- What is sound and what sounds could we give space?
- What are the structures conditioning us and who could we be in them?
- What is possible to explore by dividing an expression into visual and auditive material?
- What is freedom, responsibilities and limitations to an artist?
In 2015 Josefine left work due to a longer period of illness. This experience forced her into stillness and reflection and to face the structures around her. This experience made her question her everyday reality and look for new strategies and footholds. This experience helped her to understand the power of trust and the connection to one’s values.
During her Master studies she has made a great number of explorations around the above questions and she has invited a lot of people from her context. Her explorations have included dancing, singing, music making, painting, writing, filming, photographing, sewing, walking, interviewing, talking, listening, teaching, editing, sleeping, cooking, breathing, travelling,
translating, guiding and negotiating. She has experimented within the formats of performing arts, performance art and installation art. Welcome to read further about her process in the written presentation in May.
