Conference on international educational collaboration to Gothenburg

Published

The European Association for International Education (EAIE) conference is coming to Gothenburg in September 2025. It is one of the world's largest conferences in higher education, focusing on international collaboration.

"The conference is one of the most significant events in international higher education, where experts gather to exchange knowledge, build collaborations, and discuss the future of education," says Pauli Kortteinen, Deputy Vice-Chancellor responsible for issues regarding education at the University of Gothenburg.

The EAIE conference takes place annually in various cities across Europe. This year, Toulouse, France, hosted the event, welcoming over 7 300 participants from 110 countries.

"It was inspiring, constructive, and intensive days. We had a solid delegation from the University of Gothenburg present, which was valuable considering that the conference is coming to Gothenburg next year," says Pauli Kortteinen.

Gothenburg host city in 2025

The 2025 conference will be held at the Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre (Svenska Mässan) in Gothenburg from 9–12 September. It will provide participating institutions with the opportunity to forge new partnerships and strengthen existing collaborations, to benchmark, and exchange experiences in a wide range of areas. The theme for the Gothenburg conference will be "GO-Create," which ties into the city’s commitment to sustainability, inclusion, and innovation.

"Being the host city gives Gothenburg a chance to showcase its strengths in education and innovation, while also enhancing both the university's and the city's international profile and opening up new collaborations. We look forward to creating important meetings and partnerships that benefit both the university and our students, while also highlighting Gothenburg's creativity and innovative strength in higher education," says Pauli Kortteinen.

West Swedish institutions co-host

The University of Gothenburg is hosting the event in collaboration with Chalmers University of Technology, Jönköping University, the University of Borås, Halmstad University, and the University of Skövde. Planning is in full swing, and in addition to activities at the Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre, the six institutions will invite partners to special events and offer visitors guided tours of their respective campuses.

The conference was originally scheduled to be held in Gothenburg in September 2021, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was postponed to 2025.
