New Management at the Department of Sociology and Work Science

Published

On 1 October, Kristian Daneback and Sofia Strid will take up their positions as Head of Department and Deputy Head respectively at the Department of Sociology and Work Science. They will be joined by a new management team.

Kristian Daneback is a professor of social work. His research has mainly focused on how the digitalisation of society affects people's everyday lives in different ways, for example in areas such as love and sexuality, parenting and bullying. He also has extensive experience in education, where he has taught and supervised at all levels from undergraduate to doctoral studies.

His management experience comes from contexts at both departmental and faculty level. At the Department of Social Work, Kristian Daneback has been both Vice Head and Director of Doctoral Studies. However, his most recent experience comes from his time as acting dean at the Faculty of Social Sciences and before that as vice-dean with responsibility for research and doctoral education.

– I think I have gained a fairly good knowledge of the entire organisation, although of course I don't know everything. At the same time, the management assignments have contributed to me having a large leadership network both within and outside the university, which I believe will be a valuable asset, says Kristian Daneback.

Sofia Strid is Associate Professor of Gender Studies and Senior Lecturer in Sociology at the Department of Sociology and Work Science. Her research is interdisciplinary and international. It covers areas such as gender studies, policy studies, political science and sociology. In addition to Sweden, Sofia Strid has been employed in Belgium, the UK and Austria. Her research focuses on different forms of inequality in areas such as labour, politics, civil society, sexuality, sustainability and violence.

Sofia Strid also has experience in teaching and supervision at all levels. In addition, she has management experience from roles such as responsible for undergraduate education, Director of Doctoral Studies, head of research centres and, not least, Research Leader.

– I believe it is important to respect our collective knowledge and experience, to value the perspectives of others, to dare to rethink habits and challenge norms, says Sofia Strid about the new assignment.

In addition to Kristian Daneback and Sofia Strid, the incoming management team consists of Vice Heads Mattias Wahlström, responsible for research and doctoral studies, and Christel Backman, responsible for education, as well as Elin Rosén, who is Head of Administration at the department.
