Nordic Gender Fund will soon open for applications

Published

The Nordic Gender Fund opens on 15 October. Applications are welcome for projects in the Nordic region aimed at strengthening the infrastructure for research on gender and other power structures.

Since the late 1990s, the Swedish Secretariat for Gender Research at the University of Gothenburg has pursued important issues in the field of gender research, as well as overarching policy issues related to research infrastructure. The Nordic Gender Fund is a continuation of this work.

‘This is the first time we open this call for funding, so it will be interesting to see what proposals we recieve. Are there specific needs for support? Who is applying and for what? The overall picture will give us a better understanding of how to develop the fund further', says Fredrik Bondestam, Director of the Swedish Secretariat for Gender Research

Support for activities that strengthen research infrastructure

The purpose of the fund is to strengthen infrastructure for research in the Nordic region on norms, beliefs and structures that reproduce and maintain inequalities based on, for example, gender, race/ethnicity, sexuality, class and age.

Support is given to activities to start up or strengthen 1) scientific networks 2) organisation of scientific conferences 3) scientific journals.

In addition to networks, conferences and journals, there is a category for ‘other activities’ that can be used for other types of activities promoting infrastructure.  Support for projects aimed at individual research projects will not be granted funding.

A total of SEK 500 000 will be allocated this year.  Eligible applicants are doctoral students or PhD researchers affiliated with a higher education institution in one of the Nordic countries or the three autonomous territories of the Faroe Islands, Greenland and Åland.

The call opens on 15 October and closes on 15 November 2024 at 15:00 CET.

When the call opens, you will find the application form on the fund's information page: Nordic Gender Fund | University of Gothenburg (gu.se)
