During the summer, students from the Artistic Faculty have painted the boarded fence along Fågelsången - where the construction of the faculty's new house is underway.
This spring, the Artistic Faculty, together with the faculty’s student union - Konstkåren, Akademiska Hus and Skanska, invited students from the faculty's departments to register an interest in painting, or otherwise decorating, the boarded fence along Konstnärliga’s construction site. The fence runs along Fågelsången in Näckrosområdet.
Students who wanted to participate sent sketches of what they wanted to paint. These were then approved by dean Henric Benesch together with Konskårens chairperson, Miriam Ståhlgren.
Miriam Ståhlgren thinks it is important that the faculty's students get to take up space in the city.
“Konstkåren's goal is not only that the faculty should be the best place for artistic education, but also that Gothenburg should be a city where art can take place and artists can thrive. It is extra fun to see that our students get this opportunity outside of our future home.”
In June, the first students began the process of realizing their works. Work progressed during the summer and eleven students participated in painting the boarded fence.
The fence becomes a natural exhibition space
Fredrik Hallström studies Fine Arts at HDK-Valand and is one of the students who painted the fence.
”It's fun to try my painting on a larger scale, which is something I haven't done before. The fence becomes a natural exhibition space and it's fun that my work will be seen in public.”
“It's nice to see how our students have, in different ways, set the tone and left their mark on the walk along Fågelsången while waiting for our new buildings to be completed,” says Henric Benesch, dean of the Artistic Faculty.
