The #culinaryheritage research network in new collaboration with Rydal

The new collaboration is linked to the exhibition "Food: more than just a meal" which visits Rydal's museum 25 May - 16 October 2024. During this period, the museum, Rydal's Herrgård and Rydal's Pelarsal together with the research network #matarv (culinary heritage) at the University of Gothenburg organize a series of events with the theme of food as cultural heritage.

Happening in the museum
On 25 May, the summer exhibitions "Food: more than just a meal" and "Nybyggaren" will open and be inaugurated.

Attending the opening is Jenny Högström Berntson, responsible for the research network #matarv at the University of Gothenburg and producer for the podcast on culinary heritage - Matarvspodden. She will talk about #matarv and the podcast together with Lisa Haeger, the host of the podcast.

Martin Berntson, professor of religious studies, Department of Literature, History of Ideas and Religion, University of Gothenburg, also active in #matarv, will give an insight into the history of soft drinks and offer a blind test of soft drinks.

Ann Iberius-Orrvik begins with an opening speech. She is an inventor, politician and entrepreneur and on the same day she opens Rydal's Pelarsal on the ground floor of the house. When the museum closes for the day, the inauguration continues at Rydal's Herrgård with a tasting of beer brewed at Hemgården's brewery in Rydal. The opening is open to the public and everyone is very welcome.

FOOD: more than just a meal and Nybyggaren
Food: more than just a meal is a touring exhibition is produced by the Skåne Regional Museum together with the Norwegian outdoor museum Maihaugen and the Danish Den Gamle By. The focus is sustainability, and brings together historical aspects of food production and food management with today's and tomorrow's innovation and research. Starting in the Nordic region, the project explores the importance of food for both individuals and society and our relationship to production, consumption and recycling.

In the temporary exhibition Nybyggaren there are also many connections to food heritage and sustainability. Here, the visitor encounters Gunilla Andélius' story in a photo exhibition based on the dream of going one's own way, living with one's own hands and practicing self-reliance in the old way.

Culinary heritage in focus during the autumn
During the autumn, a series of joint events are planned that will focus on various topics about food as cultural heritage. There will be events on Thursday evenings in September, food heritage activities during the "MatEvent" on September 13-14, Swedish fika in focus in connection to the knitting festival in Rydal on October 12-13. And finally, a day with beer in the center in connextion to a local "Oktoberfest" at Rydals Herrgård.

"It's a great opportunity for us from #culinaryheritage to share research and knowledge about food heritage and it's really rewarding to plan and co-create all these activities together with Rydal's museum and other actors in Rydal. We look forward to an autumn with food knowledge in focus, to conversations about food, fragrance and art, food in times of crisis, "fika" traditions and food memories," says Jenny Högström Berntson, responsible for #foodheritage at the University of Gothenburg.

The exhibition "Nybyggaren - A story about going your own way" is a story about determination, longing for freedom and closeness to animals and nature.
