Arenas for building relations for co-operation through citizen science (ARCS)
Short description
This novel project will develop organisational conditions for strengthening cooperation between Swedish universities and the surrounding society in research and education through citizen science. The goal is to develop capacity-building resources for high quality citizen science made available on a web-based portal. This portal will function as a national resource for researchers and others starting up citizen science projects and will be to provide tools for designing and implementing citizen science undertaken in Sweden. It will include a complete inventory of existing citizen science projects and create a network of interested members of the scientific community, governmental and non-governmental organizations, and civil society.
The project is a collaboration between University of Gothenburg (GU), the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Umeå University (UMU) and the association Vetenskap & Allmänhet (VA) [Science & Public]. Citizen science is an internationally recognized area for developing co-operation that only to limited extent have been subject to organized and structured initiatives across universities in Sweden. The product will be a resource for the expansion of citizen science projects and will continuously enable learning and knowledge exchange between researchers at Swedish universities and the general public. The project will develop and provide tools for increasing the capacity to implement high-quality citizen science projects, addressing standardisation and data quality, ethics, implementation of technology, and communication.
