Lab Daniel Giglio
Short description
Human papillomavirus (HPV) and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) account for a significant portion of cancers in developing countries. Daniel Giglio's research group is studying the immune system in HPV-induced cancer in the cervix and in the head and neck area, as well as EBV-induced cancer in the nasopharynx. The prevalence of HPV- and EBV-induced cancers, genetic risk factors, and biomarkers predicting the risk of chronic virus infection are being investigated in Ethiopia, Rwanda, Tanzania, Zambia, and India. In other projects, the response to treatment is being studied in subgroups of colorectal cancer (MSI-H) and breast cancer (HER2-positive). One project is focused on biomarkers predicting the risk of radiotherapy-induced inflammation in the bladder and rectum and treatment response to hyperbaric oxygen therapy for these conditions.
