Sex in Borderlands. How Swedish sexual politics and migration politics affect persons who sell sex in Sweden

Research project

Department of social work

Short description

Many people who sell sex today are migrants and have different legal status. Their access to rights can therefore be limited. Swedish citizens’ rights can also be conditioned and limited due to the fact that they sell sex. How do persons who sell sex in Sweden experience rights, support, protection and control from Swedish authorities and NGOs?

The research project consists of three parts:

  • Relevant laws and policies
  • Stories from people who sell sex about their situation regarding access to rights, legal support, economical support, education and work
  • Social work that target people with experience of selling sex. What support or/and controlling interventions are there and what happens in the meeting between social workers and persons who sell sex?
