The retail sector accounts for a large share of employment in Sweden and is also a sector where many young people and foreign-born enter the labour market.
There are many career paths in retail and several retailers rank high on the list of most attractive employers for students after graduation. The ongoing structural transformation of retailing raises many questions concerning skill needs, work transition and mobility in the labour market, but also regarding intra- and interorganizational issues. In this area, studies include work establishment and transition in the retail sector, internationalization of firms, sustainability issues in supply chains and how retail businesses are organized.
