This information concerns applications to the Master of Fine Arts Programme in Music with specialization in Composition (Experimental Composition and Creation). The application process for studies starting in the autumn 2024 is closed and admission is in process. Next time you can apply is Dec 2025 – Jan 2026.
Your application procedure
The following applies to admissions for studies starting in the autumn term 2024:
- Apply for the programme through universityadmissions.se
Application period: December 1st 2023 – January 15th 2024. Note: You have to search for the programme's full official name: Masters of Fine Arts Programme in Music with specialization in Composition. - Submit your portfolio through SlideRoom.
All material must be submitted no later than January 25th 2024. - Deadline for supporting documentation (to show your eligibility):
February 1 st 2024. More information on general requirements for master's level studies. - Pay your application fee no later than 1 February 2024. If you are exempt from paying the application fee, you must prove your exemption status by the same date. More information on universityadmissions.se.

Portfolio
Note: The following information concerns students starting autumn 2024.
You must submit:

A proposal (4000–6000 characters) of a project idea that you plan to develop in your independent work. Within this frame you explore one or several perspectives that are closely connected to your own artistic practice. Present your project idea by a short description of what you would like to explore, why you are focusing on this topic, and ideas on how to realize your project.
The development of your independent work is an ongoing open process with one or several different perspectives, involving critical reflections on your artistic practice. Bring these perspectives into your presentation.
The description should also contain thoughts on theories and methods that may be relevant, as well as reflections on your work from an interdisciplinary perspective, with connections to other art forms or science. You are also invited to relate your idea to a larger context of the surrounding world and processes in society. Bring up possible references in the project: What have others done in the same or adjacent areas? - At least three (3) compositions/sound art works/installations/performances, notated and/or recorded, which are updated and represent you and your music. Maximal file size for audio is 60 MB, videos 500 MB.
- A list of your previous artistic works.
- A curriculum vitae.

Interview
Note: The following information concerned students starting autumn 2024.
After reading and listening to the submitted material, we call a limited number of applicants for personal interviews, which will take place remotely on 26 and 27 February 2024. This interview is mandatory for all selected applicants.
Eligibility and selection
Entry requirements
Bachelor degree of arts in music or equivalent, and musical knowledge and skills that are assessed at the admission test and are the basis for selection.
Selection
Selection of eligible applicants is based upon entrance tests.
Tuition fees
Students with citizenship in countries not within the EU/EEA, or Switzerland, are required to pay application and tuition fees for university studies in Sweden.
