About Master in Sea and Society

A programme where students, teachers, researchers, and practitioners from different disciplines come together to learn, exchange, and create new knowledge about the sustainable use of the sea and its resources. As a student, you will benefit from this transdisciplinary approach and develop a broad skillset for a career in the marine and maritime sector.

  • The University of Gothenburg is Sweden's leading university for marine and maritime research and education.
  • The university has close collaboration with several national marine and maritime industries, authorities and regulatory bodies such as the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management.
  • For students that want a broad marine education as training for a career in marine/maritime industry, marine authorities, environmental courts and multidisciplinary marine sciences.
  • If you have citizenship in EU, EEA country, or Switzerland, you are not required to pay application or tuition fees in Sweden.

Our Study Environment

Gothenburg is situated at the west coast of Sweden. Here you will find coastal waters with higher diversity of marine species than anywhere else in Sweden, along with a relieving proximity to the open sea.

Application and scholarships

Students with a citizenship in EU/EEA, or Switzerland do not pay tuition in Sweden. This also apply for exchange students. All other students are required to pay for our courses and programmes. Good news is that there are scholarship available for fee paying students.
