Position
The course is offered in the first cycle and is included in the third semester of the Bachelor’s Programme in Business and Economics (S1EKA). It is not offered as a freestanding course.

Completed course Statistics 1 a, 8 credits (EKS101).
Content
The course teaches the basics of how regression analysis can be used to analyse the relationships between two or more variables in order to describe, draw conclusions about causation, and make predictions. The course focuses on practically applicable skills, on practice through computer analysis of real data materials, and on understanding the limitations of statistical methods.
The course builds on basic statistical knowledge. Students are strongly recommended to review the concepts and principles covered in the course EKS101 Statistics 1a.
Objectives
On successful completion of the course the student will be able to:
- Describe the functioning and use of fundamental methods for analysis of correlations between two or more variables.
- Interpret the parameters of basic regression models.
- Apply relevant methods for correlation analysis in practical situations and interpret the results of the application.
- Perform simple correlation analyses using relevant software for data management and data analysis.

Examination formats
The learning outcomes are assessed via an individual written exam and written assignments.
The written assignments are mandatory, and must be approved within the same course session for the grade to be registered. The written assignments also contribute points towards the course grade but cannot be used to improve the results of the written exam.
A passing grade on the written assignments can be carried over to later course instances, but the points awarded are only valid for one course instance and cannot be saved for subsequent instances. If the student wishes, it is allowed to complete the written assignments in a later course session, but not after the course grade has been registered.
A student who has taken two exams in a course or part of a course without obtaining a pass grade is entitled to the nomination of another examiner. The student needs to contact the department for a new examiner, preferably in writing, and this should be approved by the department unless there are special reasons to the contrary (Chapter 6 Section 22 of the Higher Education Ordinance).
If a student has received a recommendation from the University of Gothenburg for special educational support, where it is compatible with the learning outcomes of the course and provided that no unreasonable resources are required, the examiner may decide to allow the student to sit an adjusted exam or alternative form of assessment.
In the event that a course has ceased or undergone major changes, students are to be guaranteed at least three examination sessions (including the ordinary examination session) over a period of at least one year, but no more than two years, after the course has ceased/been changed.
Grades
The grading scale comprises: Excellent (A), Very good (B), Good (C), Satisfactory (D), Sufficient (E) and Fail (F).
To obtain a passing grade for the course, a passing grade is required on the individual written exam and the written assignments. In calculating the final course grade, any points earned from the written assignments are combined with the points from the passed written exam. The points from the written assignments are valid only within the scope of the course instance (regular exam and two retake exams).
Course evaluation
Upon completion, the course will be evaluated in accordance with the rules for course evaluations established by the Bachelor's Programme in Business and Economics at the School of Business, Economics and Law. The results of the evaluation as well as any changes to the course structure shall be communicated to both the students who completed the evaluation and the students who are enrolled in the subsequent round of the course.
