Technical writing in computer systems and networks
About
During the course the students will get the chance to examine the current state of the art in a specific research area and write a report about it. The report should be based on published works within a research area connected to the field of computer systems and networks. Each research area and a number of related topics are presented to the student in introductory lectures.
The students will be working in groups, each group will be allocated a topic for the report that is to be written. The report shall be presented orally at a seminar. The students are also required to review publications and the reports of other groups. There will be lectures, seminars and workshops in the areas of scientific writing, reviewing and presentation as well as in ethics.
Prerequisites and selection
Entry requirements
To be eligible for the course the student must successfully have completed 120 credits of studies within computer science or equivalent, including the following courses (or other equivalent courses):
- DIT423 Computer communication,
- DIT401 Operating Systems
- DIT240 Distributed Systems.
The studentmust also prove the following knowledge of English:
English 6/English B or the equivalent level of an internationally recognized test, for example TOEFL, IELTS.
Selection
Selection is based upon the number of credits from previous university studies, maximum 165 credits.
