Gothenburg is Sweden’s second largest city and is hugely popular not only with students, but also companies. Many people are moving to study and work in Gothenburg, causing a housing shortage. For this reason, we encourage you to begin looking for accommodation as soon as possible.
University housing for researchers
The University of Gothenburg offers temporary accommodation for international researchers and doctoral students.
The residences are located at various addresses in Gothenburg and Mölndal with either walking distance or good communications to the city center and the size of the residences varies from single rooms to three rooms and kitchen.
All bookings and reservations are to be made by the host department, a form for a booking request is available on the Staff portal.

Please note that the University does not guarantee housing. We offer a limited number of housing, and especially during the autumn semester it could be fully booked.

Accommodation in the Purchase system
The host department contacts the respective supplier via the Purchasing System (Inköpssystemet). There are two procured housing options which you can see below. All bookings must be made by the host institution.
Via external suppliers, long-term accommodation in rooms or apartments is offered for shorter or longer periods. Three procured suppliers are available via the Purchasing System and they offer stays from one week or more in furnished rooms and apartments, with kitchen/kitchenette or access to a kitchen.

Long-term residence in Gothenburg, sub-area 2 (Centrum and Hisingen) Offers studio-4 rok. A total of 69 apartments. All apartments are furnished and have their own kitchen or kitchenette, laundry facilities and bathroom. - Sleep Well Hotel Gothenburg AB
Long-term accommodation for incoming staff to GU and Chalmers, sub-area 2. Offers moderate rooms and standard rooms (minimum 30 nights). Residents have access to a guest kitchen that is shared with other guests at the hotel. - Gothenburg Hostel AB
Long-term residence in Gothenburg, sub-area 1 & 2. Offers rooms with shared WC & shower and rooms with own WC & shower. Single room/ 2-bed room - 8-bed room. All rooms are located at the same address, all rooms have access to a common kitchen, TV room & laundry room.

Home Finding Service via a relocation company
Home finding service means that a relocation company searches for second-hand housing that matches the wishes of the client. The University of Gothenburg has no procured agreement with a relocation company regarding home finding service, so any company can be contacted for this service. Contact your host department for more information.

SGS Student housing for doctoral students
If you are a doctoral student, you can apply for accommodation through SGS, a foundation managing Gothenburg’s largest range of student housing. Even though the waiting time is normally about one and a half years, it is not impossible to be offered an accommodation through SGS's Direct and Last Minute. How to apply on SGS website
