About Catharina Olsson

My main research interest is in the control of gastrointestinal motility in vertebrates with focus on fish. My research involves studies on the intrinsic and extrinsic innervation of the gut using e.g. immunohistochemistry and different fluorescent dyes. This is combined with in vitro and in vivo physiological and pharmacological methods.

Recently, our emphasis has been on the characterization of different motility patterns and how they are affected by internal control systems as well as by external factors such as intake of food, ambient temperature or salinity. Using video microscopy method our lab has produced several papers on the control of gut motility during development.
