Jonathan Roques
Researcher
Department of Biological & Environmental SciencesAbout Jonathan Roques
I am a biologist, specialized in animal welfare, ecophysiology and behavior of aquatic species. My research addresses basic mechanistic questions about how animals face challenges and disturbances from anthropogenic origin.
My main research interest is to optimize the rearing conditions and welfare of animals in aquaculture practices. I use a multidisciplinary approach, combining physiological (stress, metabolism, osmoregulation), behavioral and growth parameters to study the impact of current practices on fish welfare.
I am currently involved in the FORMAS-funded MARTINIS project, which aims to optimize and develop new cleaning technologies for recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS). I am also a member of SWEMARC, the Swedish Mariculture Research Center. SWEMARC, is one of six interdisciplinary research centers at the University of Gothenburg, aiming to increase the sustainability of farming seafood through interdisciplinary and socially engaging research.
