About Elisabeth Jönsson Bergman

I lead a reserach group who focuses on the endocrine regulation of appetite growth as well as health in fish. The research is of basic interest to understand fundamental biological processes that determine how animals allocate or mobilize energy reserves. The reserach particularly focuses on the growth hormone (GH) and insulin factor I (IGF_I system, and the appetite hormone ghrelin along with neuroendocrine mechanims. The research addresses questions relevant for the aquaculture industry. In this context, one important aim of my research is to gain knowledge about the impact of feed composition on growth performance of farmed fish. This is important when trying to find new, alternative aquaculture ingredients that are sustainable and can replace fish meal and fish oil. The research group currently consists of one PhD-student, Nicklas Wallbom, one post-doc, Ali Khansari, and two master students. I am project leader of the two projects 1) a nordic collaboration "Physiology shapes the happy salmon – a systems approach to sustainable feeds for stimulation of growth, welfare and survival (Happy salmon)", and a national project investigating the biological effects of vaccination in rainbow trout.

I am als a member of the research group "Fish Endocrinology Laboratory" - the FEL group and the thematic area zoophysiology. I am a member of the transdisciplinary marine aquaculture research center SWEMARC: www.gu.se/swemarc-marint-vattenbruk and the Blue food center for future seafood https://www.bluefood.se/en/

My work tasks at the department also include teaching, Animal care and welfare officer, equality representative and outreach activities.
