Cross-border collaboration on feminist theatre history

Dr Susan Croft, feminist theatre historian and director of Unfinished Histories visited the Centre for Critical Heritage Studies (CCHS) in early June.

Unfinished Histories

Susan Croft is currently busy with the upcoming event “FYFFI 1: Radical Rediscovery – Feminist Plays of the 1960s to 80s” in celebration of the 50 Years since the first Women's Theatre Festival in the UK.

“Unfinished Histories began by gathering many of the stories of that first festival. Fifty years on from it, as part of FYFFI 1, we look at what was achieve. We rediscover and celebrate lost work, and examine where women and non-binary people are now.”

When in Gothenburg

In Gothenburg Susan Croft met up with theatre historian Birgitta Lindh Estelle, to share knowledge on the history of women playwrights, and with theatre director and researcher Fia Adler Sandblad, to discuss feminist and physical theatre connections between the UK and Sweden.

Astrid von Rosen, director of CCHS, finds Croft’s visit pivotal for demonstrating what critical heritage studies can do.

“Croft’s research strongly resonates with groundbreaking results from the CCHS project Expansion and Diversity. The new CCHS Dig Where You Stand research themewill help taking this collaboration further.”
