AI in schools: challenges, opportunities, and joint strategies to promote democratic education
Short description
The rise of AI systems like ChatGPT among students is prompting significant changes in education. Schools face challenges in determining relevant subjects and fair assessment methods. Since the launch of ChatGPT-3 in November 2022, over 80% of 16–18-year-olds now use these technologies for schoolwork, highlighting the need for updated educational practices.
Schools and municipalities are struggling without national guidelines for using generative AI (GAI) in education. This research project aims to explore how GAI access affects teaching and assessment, and to develop strategies for educators. It focuses on how GAIs impact equitable education and the strategies professionals use to balance benefits and challenges.
Collaborating with 13 school units, the project seeks to provide evidence-based recommendations for effective education, offering new insights and practical tools to manage these changes.
