About

This course introduces you to different methodological approaches for formulating, planning and implementing higher education research and development work in teaching and learning in higher education. The course also covers qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods for producing and analysing data, as well as how systematic research reviews can be carried out. Focus is also placed on various quality criteria, validity and reliability together with ethical research problems, guidelines and choice of research method. After passing the course, you will have developed competences in ethical research guidelines, problems and principles, choice of research methods and how results from development work can be used to develop teaching and learning in higher education.

Prerequisites and selection

Entry requirements

Admission to the course requires a bachelor's degree or an equivalent degree of at least 180 credits. Furthermore, the student must demonstrate proficiency in English equivalent to English 6 (Swedish upper secondary school level) or English B with at least passed result or through an international test in English with requirements on lowest result: TOEFL test on paper = 575 or by computer = 213, or alternatively a bachelor's degree from education with English as the language of instruction.

Selection

Selection is based upon the number of credits from previous university studies, maximum 165 credits.

After graduation

The course leads to competences to carry out developmental and research projects with a particular focus on diverse contexts in teaching and learning in higher education.

The course is offered in English, at distance with net based activities and includes lectures, seminars and workshops. Assignments are carried out in groups as well as individually.
