Jonas Ivarsson är professor i informatik. Han började studera kognitionsvetenskap och kommunikationsstudier innan han 2004 disputerade inom det utbildningsvetenskapliga fältet. 2013 blev han professor i pedagogik med forskning fokuserad på olika teknologiers roll i utvecklingen av kunskap och kompetens. År 2019 flyttade han till informatik vid Institutionen för tillämpad informationsteknologi. Där är hans roll att leda den framväxande forskningen om Artificiell Intelligens.
Ivarsson har tidigare arbetat som viceprefekt och som vicedekan för forskning vid den utbildningsvetenskapliga fakulteten. Han har även varit ledamot i Göteborgs universitetsstyrelse och ingått i universitetets samordningsgrupp för artificiell intelligens och digitalisering. Ivarsson är utsedd av regeringen att ingå som ledamot i Migrationsverkets etiska råd fram till 2027.
Ivarsson är en erfaren forskningsledare som för närvarande är huvudansvarig projektet ’Professional Trust and Autonomous Systems’ med finansiering från Marianne och Marcus Wallenbergs Stiftelse.
