School of Global StudiesAbout Arne Frederik Wackenhut
I am a Senior Lecturer in Global Studies at the School of Global Studies.
In June 2017, I successfully defended my doctoral thesis, which sought to better understand the role of the Cairo-based political opposition in the diffusion of protest during the Egyptian Uprising of 2011. My research interests include, but are not limited to, diaspora studies and transnationalism, social movement theory, contentious politics, and research ethics.
Currently, I work on a VR funded research project that seeks to better understand the ways in which second-generation diasporans relate to their parents' countries of origin, and how these countries seek to engage "their" young diasporas.
My teaching philosophy builds on student-centered learning, and places an emphasis on teaching and learning activities that encourage deep learning.
Between 2018 and 2021 I was the program director for the B.A. program in Global Studies. Since 2021, I serve as the Director of Studies for staffing at the School of Global Studies.
