About Birgitta Niklasson

Research Interests

  • Steering, control, and autonomy of the public administration, with a special focus on the balance between democracy and professionalism, politicians and civil servants
  • Carrers in politics and civil service, with a focus on government agencies and diplomacy
  • Gender in politics and public administration, with a focus on government agencies and diplomacy

Ongoing Research

Birgitta Niklasson is leading a research project on whistleblowing in Swedish political parties funded by the Swedish Research Council. Other researchers in the project are Andreas Bågenholm and Jenny De Fine Licht. The project runs from 2022 until 2026.

Niklasson is also in the process of concluding another research project together with Ann Towns on women in diplomacy.
