About Ingrid Henning Loeb

My research orientation is within the fields of adult education, vocational education and training (VET) and alternative education for youth in upper secondary school. I have mainly used ethnography-inspired research methods, interviews and narrative inquiry, but also conducted policy studies. My research interests are on the organizing, and on teaching and learning conditions in these educational fields, which have been subject to intense reformation and continuous re-organizing since the early 1990s.

A specific research interest that has evolved during the last years is how vocational learning may be enabled for second language learners in upper secondary education and in adult education. This is an under-researched area but very important considering the increasing number of second language learners in VET and the diverse policy ideas of ‘quick paths’ for learners with ‘practical skills’. The theoretical framework that I use derives from different practice theories, and I cooperate with researchers using systemic-functional linguistics in order to analyze what kind of interactions that enable (and constrain) learning in different vocational educational sites and practices.
