About Marc Pilon

RESEARCH AREA

Elucidating the function of the AdipoRs Adiponectin is a protein secreted by adipocytes and that may have insulin-sensitizing activities. Its proposed receptors, AdipoR1 and AdipoR2, have seven transmembrane domain with a topology inverse that of GPCRs; we are trying to understand the cellular function of these AdipoRs. To do this, we are studying mutant of these receptors in the small nematode C. elegans, then verifying our results in mammalian models. Our work sshows that the AdipoRs are actually important for the regulation of membrane fluidity in C. elegans and human cells, and that this essential function is independent of adiponectin.
