About Staffan Höjer

Competences/Research area Staffan Höjer’s PhD from year 2000 was titled “Knowledge, academication and professionalisation in social work” [Kunskapsbildning, akademisering och professionalisering i socialt arbete]. Since then he has continued with research evolving around knowledge-, organisation- and profession topics.

  • 2001-2001 Privatisation in the service of professionalisation [Privatisering I professionaliseringens tjänst] (Funded by CEFOS)
  • 2003-2005 Profession-motivated privatisation [Professionsdriven privatisering] (Funded by FAS)
  • 2006-2007 Supervision for practitioners within social services and disabilities [Handledning inom individ och familjeomsorg och handikappomsorg] (Funded by FoU in West of Sweden)
  • 2006-2009 Care for sale – conditions, actors and buy-processes on the child welfare market (Funded by FAS)
  • 2011-2013 Laymen governance of professions – a study of local political governance of child welfare (funded by FAS)
  • IDEA: Improving Decisions through Empowerment and Advocacy: Building Children's Rights Capacity in Child Protection Systems. The IDEA project is a five country training project for child protection professionals on children’s rights funded by the European Commission Directorate-General for Justice and Consumers. The project has a special focus on professionals in child welfare removals proceedings in courts or court-like bodies.The project is coordinated by University College Cork (Ireland) with partners from the University of Tampere (Finland), University of Szeged (Hungary), University of Gothenburg (Sweden) and University of Tartu (Estonia). The project runs from February 2017 - January 2019. http://ideachildrights.ucc.ie

Teaching Staffan Höjer has teaching experience at all university levels. Among other thing he has been teaching for many years at the International Masters programme for Social Work and Human Rights at the department. and at the MFAMILY (Master of social work with families and children) program in Portugal and Sweden. He has supervised 12 PhDs, seven in Sweden and five at Makerere university in Uganda.
