The Arctic at the Intersection
The Arctic region of the Nordic countries is increasingly at the center of discussions about climate change and various initiatives for the green transition. These developments intersect with issues of gender equality, regional concerns and Indigenous perspectives.
In recent years, several Nordic projects and studies, have addressed issues about the Arctic at the intersection of gender, climate change and the green transition. They have been funded through the Nordic Gender Equality Fund, the Nordic LGBTI Fund and other Nordic actors.
Several Nordic projects have also highlighted problem areas such as the gender-segregated labor market, the prevalence of gender-based violence, and demographic changes, of relevance to issues of climate change and green transition in the Arctic. These efforts have provided valuable insights into traditional gender norms and various forms of gendered inequality.
To facilitate knowledge and experience exchange, NIKK, Nordic Information on Gender, will bring together relevant actors for an expert meeting in 2025, which may serve as a foundation for future collaboration. NIKK is a cooperation body under the Nordic Council of Ministers, placed at the Swedish Secretariat for Gender Research.
