rewetting
Emissions from drained peatlands account for 25% of Sweden’s total greenhouse gas emissions. By rewetting peatlands, it is possible to stop the decomposition of peat, which occurs when oxygen from the air enters the peat. During decomposition, the carbon stored in the peat is released as carbon dioxide. During the spring, researchers Åsa Kasimir and Amelie Lindgren published a new handbook on rewetting drained peatlands.
