Researchers at the University of Gothenburg

You are welcome to book the R/V Skagerak if you are a researcher at the University of Gothenburg. For a smooth process, we would like to encourage you to follow our checklist and take note of the information on how to proceed before, during, and after the trip.

Subsidised research on board

R/V Skagerak was built primarily to support research at the University of Gothenburg. The university therefore contributes with financial subsidies for researchers at the University of Gothenburg on board the research vessel.

1. Book R/V Skagerak

To create the best conditions for the expedition, it is important to plan well in advance. This will make it easier for you to follow our checklist when booking.

2. Plan for the expedition with R/V Skagerak

Once the expedition is booked and ready to go, there are a few things to think about. Here are the five steps involved in planning an expedition on R/V Skagerak. NOTE: The person who booked the expedition is responsible for carrying out some of these points, so follow the list carefully.

3. Cost

Many factors affect what the expedition will cost - such as equipment, length, number of people on board and the type of sampling/surveying.

Researchers at the University of Gothenburg can apply for subsidised ship time on board R/V Skagerak. The deadline for the period 2025 and 2026 was in 27th of September 2024. The call for subsidised time aboard R/V Skagerak for 2027 opens in autumn 2025.

Please note that you can of course also book the ship at the regular price, without applying for the subsidised ship time.

To give you an idea of the price range for your trip, we have created a table where you can enter your expedition details (see below).

4. After the expedition

We know that it is often a busy time when you are back on solid ground. However – we really hope that you will take a moment to evaluate your thoughts about the expedition and your time on board R/V Skagerak.
